I did an "About Me" about 12 months ago so thought it was time to do a new one! (went along with my revamp of the blog this month!)
My Girl Gang (aka the best girlfriends a girl could ask for) suggested I write a blog detailing my running/training, work, and personal “disciplined” life so this is essentially the origin of the blog!
Besides a bit of a rough patch last fall, I've made about a post a month, mainly race recaps but some general things like my personal nutrition etc.
I've been able to lower my personal running records in every event I've raced these last 6 months (🙀), from the marathon (2:38:30), half marathon (1:13:45), 10k (34:23) to the 5k (16:26). I started working with James McKirdy in December, and I'll be forever grateful for his guidance! It's fun being part of such a growing network of runners of all ages and abilities and his passion for the sport is truly contagious! I was honored when he asked me to be a part of the McKirdy Trained High Performance Team. I feel so grateful to be able to pursue my passion for running, while getting my PhD.
I'm rounding out my time as a graduate student at FSU. I truly cannot believe by the end of this year (God-willing) I'll be Dr. Centner. How far I've come from the rambunctious high schooler who just cared about running (and largely swimming until like senior year lol) and getting by in school (I liked the advanced and honors classes just so I wouldn't be bored out of my mind). FUN was what I was pursuing (hey it's still what I'm pursuing but my GOALS and well-roundedness seem to have grown exponentially!)
Among other things, a passion has emerged for research. As I decide upon what I'll do next, I largely want to continue the harder road of a postdoctoral fellow. Another 4ish years of learning from a mentor in a lab (at least the pay will be much higher, like 2x higher lol). This route is in opposition to getting a job, where I could teach or not really use my degree to its full advantage say in industry with a food/nutrition/tech/pharma company (hey I mean having a PhD would likely turn some heads and get me a larger starting salary for a job where like only a Master's is required).
Well that's enough of a general life update for now, I hope you enjoying reading about my life and all my experiences here on my blog!
