Race Recap: 2021 Mandarin 10k and Training/Racing Updates!

It was a huge confidence booster to have such a great 10k race (34:23) on tired legs. Little 2 mile tune-up 400m workout, 13 miles (double) then 4.5 miles the 3 days prior to the race, respectively. Then a fast 18.5 miler the day after put me at 83 miles for the week, right at my peak mileage for half marathon training.

I’ve had a strong drive to get my times down after how Chicago went. It was frustrating putting in such hard training and getting a result less than satisfactory. I also missed racing so much in the build. After training mostly alone and putting in such long workouts it’s great to get out to an event and run fast with others. I got super lucky to have competition at the Mandarin 10k. It’s fun to show up myself and run a big PR; but it’s just as great to see other women show up on race day and run huge PRs! 1st Place Sports always puts on such great races, and I’m honored to represent them every time I make it over to Jax for one.

Next up is a 5k on Thanksgiving! This will serve as a great quality speed sesh, the last major one, before the USATF Half Marathon Champs in Hardeeville, SC! How lucky are we to have both the USATF 15k Champs and Half Champs right in our backyard this year! These Championship races are always a blast. It’s so fun to toe the line with so many fast women, who really work hard day in and out. Following their training and race results through the media, it’s somewhat like a dream to be standing with them on a starting line! I’m super pumped for this half, I’m seeing a lot of big names and a lot of fast times. So exciting that the top 2 will go to 2022 Worlds in the Half! I’m just hoping for a PR myself! I would love to be top 20 as well, as I squeaked under 25 in Gate River Run/USATF 15k Champs this year. Overall, training has been going super well and I’m loving this cooler weather!
